Blueprint Printing for Florida: Permit Sets Under One Statewide Building Code

Florida plan sets print at $1.95 a sheet in black and white or $3.75 in color, 18×24 through 36×48, and orders placed by 3 PM ET ship the same day to all 50 states. Florida runs on one statewide code, the Florida Building Code, which local building departments enforce. The 8th Edition (2023) is in force now, and the 9th Edition (2026) takes effect December 31, 2026, so check which edition your permit falls under before you print a set drawn to the other one. Chapter 553 also lets an owner hire a private provider for plan review or inspections, and it penalizes plans rejected three or more times for the same uncorrected problem.

What Florida law says about plans and plan review

Unlike Texas, Florida has one building code for the whole state, which local building departments enforce. Chapter 553 of the Florida Statutes also sets rules for how plan review works. Quoted from Fla. Stat. Chapter 553 and the Florida Building Commission:

RuleWhat Florida saysSource
One state codeFlorida law calls for “a single, unified state building code”, the Florida Building Code.Fla. Stat. §553.72
Current edition“The Effective Date for the Florida Building Code, 8th Edition (2023), is December 31, 2023.”Florida Building Commission (floridabuilding.org)
Next editionThe Commission “initiated development of the 9th Edition (2026), Florida Building Code, in February of 2024, with an effective date of December 31, 2026.”Florida Building Commission milestones (April 2026)
Private plan reviewThe fee owner, or the fee owner’s contractor with written authorization, “may choose at any time to use a private provider to provide plans review or building code inspection services”Fla. Stat. §553.791(2)(a)
Repeat rejectionsIf plans are rejected “three or more times for failure to correct a code violation specifically and continuously noted in each rejection”, the local government must impose “a fee of four times the amount of the proportion of the permit fee attributed to plans review”Fla. Stat. §553.80(2)(b)

What it means for your order:

  • Filing around December 31, 2026? Check the edition. The 9th Edition (2026) takes effect that day, so ask your building department which edition your plans must meet before you print.
  • Fix every noted comment before you reprint. Under §553.80, missing the same comment a third time gets expensive. Print the corrected sheets only after the designer has answered each comment.
  • Reprint only the sheets that changed. We have no minimum, so 3 revised sheets are $5.85 in black and white.
  • A private provider changes who reviews, not the need for a set. If you use one, ask them how they want the plans delivered and how many sets the building department still needs.
  • Copy counts are local. The code is statewide, but each county and city building department sets its own submittal rules. Our Florida plan submission requirements page quotes Florida cities’ own rules.

Florida reviewers measure off the sheets, so print at 100%. Local pages: Port St. Lucie, Orlando and Cape Coral.

We print your plans on white 20 lb bond from the PDF as sent. Your local building department or private provider and your design professional decide what gets filed, so confirm with them first.

Frequently asked questions

Do you have a Florida print location?

No. Florida orders are printed from your PDF and shipped to the address you enter, from Pensacola to Key West. Orders placed by 3 PM ET ship the same day.

Does Florida have one building code?

Yes. Florida law calls for a single, unified state building code, the Florida Building Code, which local building departments enforce. The Florida Building Commission lists the 8th Edition (2023) as effective December 31, 2023, and the 9th Edition (2026) as effective December 31, 2026.

Can I use a private provider for plan review in Florida?

Florida Statutes §553.791 lets the fee owner, or the fee owner’s contractor with written authorization, choose a private provider for plans review or building code inspection services. Ask the provider how they want your plans.

What happens if my Florida plans are rejected three times?

Under §553.80(2)(b), if plans are rejected three or more times for the same uncorrected code violation, the local government must charge four times the plans-review share of the permit fee each time after the third rejection.

Can I print just the revised sheets?

Yes. There’s no minimum order, so you can print one revised sheet at $1.95 in black and white or $3.75 in color.

Which Florida Building Code edition will my permit use?

The Commission says the 8th Edition (2023) took effect December 31, 2023, and the 9th Edition (2026) takes effect December 31, 2026. Ask your building department which edition applies to your application date.
