How to Print the House Plans You Bought Online

You found the house plan, paid for the PDF set, and downloaded the files. Now the builder, the lender, and the building department all want paper copies — at full size and to scale. Here is how to get printed sets without guessing at sizes or driving to a copy counter.

Order house-plan prints — upload your PDF, pick the sheet size, and check out. Black and white $1.95/sheet, color $3.75/sheet, same flat price on 18×24, 24×36, 30×42, 36×46, and 36×48, with no minimum. Order by 3 PM ET, ships same day, arrives as soon as the next day. First order: use WELCOME20 for 20% off. Or start from the homepage. Want the full rundown first? See how our plan printing service works.

Print My Plans prints on bond paper only (we do not offer vellum or Mylar). Upload PDF only — other file types: email support@printmyplans.com. New to checkout? See how to print blueprints online. Most stock plans land on 24×36 — see our 24×36 ARCH D guide.

1. Check what your plan license allows

Most stock-plan companies sell PDF or CAD sets with a license that lets you print the copies you need to build the home. Some lower-priced “study” or “preview” sets are marked not for construction. Read the license or FAQ that came with your purchase before you order prints. If you’re unsure, ask the plan seller. Print My Plans only prints plans you have the right to reproduce — we do not interpret seller licenses for you.

2. Print at the size the plans were drawn for

Stock house plans are usually laid out on 24×36 (ARCH D) sheets. Open the PDF and check the page size:

Common nameSheet (inches)Typical useB&WColor
ARCH C18×24Smaller details / half sets$1.95$3.75
ARCH D24×36Most US house-plan sets$1.95$3.75
ARCH E130×42Larger site / civil$1.95$3.75
Sewing pattern36×46Copy-shop sewing pattern files, printed at 100% scale$1.95$3.75
ARCH E36×48Full-size civil / presentation$1.95$3.75

Same flat price on every checkout size. No minimum — even one sheet. Other sizes: email support@printmyplans.com.

  • PDF says 24×36 → order 24×36. The scale on the sheet (for example 1/4" = 1′-0") stays accurate.
  • PDF is a different size → order that size from the checkout sizes above.
  • Printing a 24×36 drawing on smaller paper shrinks it, and the written scale will not match. Contractors and inspectors measure off these sheets, so match the PDF page size.

Pricing deep-dive: how much it costs to print blueprints.

3. Decide how many sets you need

There’s no single number. Common uses:

  • Building permit: your town’s building department sets the count. Check its website or call before ordering.
  • Builder / general contractor: usually one or more sets for the job site.
  • Lender or appraiser: often asks for a set.
  • Your own copy: keep one clean set for yourself.

Many homeowners end up needing several sets in total. Ordering all your sets at once is easier than reordering mid-project. Quantity = pages × sets, and there’s no minimum. Bidding or field packages with multiple copies? Also useful: bid set printing: how many copies and construction drawing printing for job-site sets.

4. Black-and-white or color?

Most house plans are line drawings, and black-and-white prints are the standard for permit and job-site sets ($1.95 per sheet). Choose color ($3.75 per sheet) for rendered elevations, colored site plans, or presentation sheets.

To mix B&W and color in one order, add them as separate items, each with its own PDF (for example: one item for the B&W line sheets, another for the color elevations). Comparing a storefront counter to online? See copy center vs online blueprint printing.

5. Upload, print, ship

  1. Upload your PDF plan files at the order page.
  2. Pick the sheet size that matches the PDF page, B&W or color, and quantity (pages × sets).
  3. To mix B&W and color, add them as separate items, each with its own PDF.
  4. Order by 3 PM ET, ships same day, arrives as soon as the next day.

We print in Toms River, NJ, and ship nationwide. Standard sets print on bond paper only. Long roll plots are custom — email support@printmyplans.com (not a website line item).

If we make a mistake on your prints, we reprint and ship free. For anything else (wrong file uploaded, wrong size ordered, license questions), email support@printmyplans.com and we’ll help sort it out.

FAQ

Where can I print house plans?

You can print house plans online at Print My Plans for $1.95 per sheet in black & white or $3.75 per sheet in color, at all sizes (18×24 to 36×48). Order by 3 PM ET, ships same day, arrives as soon as the next day. Upload your PDF, pick the sheet size the plans were drawn for (usually 24×36), and choose how many sets you need.

Can you print house plans I bought from a website?

Yes, as long as your plan license allows printing. Upload the PDF and choose the size the sheets were drawn for (usually 24×36 / ARCH D).

Will my prints be to scale?

They stay true to the written scale when you order the same sheet size as the PDF page and avoid “fit to page” on export. Don’t shrink a 24×36 plan onto smaller paper if anyone will measure from it.

Do you have a minimum order?

No. Print one sheet or several full sets. Same flat price on all checkout sizes — $1.95 B&W / $3.75 color.

Can I mix black-and-white and color in one order?

Yes — as separate items, each with its own PDF. For example, order the line sheets in B&W and the rendered elevations in color.

What file types do you accept?

Checkout is PDF only. Other file types go to support@printmyplans.com. Photos of paper plans won’t print to scale.

Do you print on vellum or Mylar?

No. We print on bond only. Specialty media is not offered.

How fast do prints ship?

Order by 3 PM ET, ships same day, arrives as soon as the next day.

Do you ship outside New Jersey?

Yes. We print in Toms River, NJ, and ship nationwide; you enter the address at checkout.

Is there a first-order or student discount?

New customers can use WELCOME20 for 20% off a first order. Students can use STUDENT25 for 25% off. Codes cannot be stacked.

What if something is wrong with my prints?

If we make a mistake, we reprint and ship free. For anything else, email support@printmyplans.com and we’ll help.

Do you print half-size (11×17) house-plan sets?

Standard checkout sizes are 18×24, 24×36, 30×42, 36×46, and 36×48. For other sizes (including half-size), email support@printmyplans.com. Never treat a reduced set as a substitute when the AHJ or builder says “full-size plans.” More on when each makes sense: half-size vs full-size plan sets.

Ready to print your house-plan PDF? Upload at Print My Plans — or email support@printmyplans.com.
